Google Page Creator Migration to Google Sites

About the Page Creator shut down

Google Page Creator will be shut down in June, 2009. To make the transition to Sites as smooth and easy as possible for Page Creator users, we will be doing an automatic import of Page Creator pages to Google Sites, which will include moving pages to Google Sites and redirecting visits to googlepages.com URLs to their new location on Google Sites. From now until this import begins June 1, Page Creator users who don't want to be moved to Google Sites have the option to download their content, host it on another service, and redirect their existing URL. Please note that Google Sites does not support JavaScript, some forms of HTML, or web hosting.

How will the import work?

The migration will begin in May and will automatically move your site from Page Creator to Sites. After we move your site we'll redirect all requests for your googlepages.com site to the corresponding site on Google Sites.

Do I need to sign-up for the import?

No, it will be done automatically for you.

How do I opt-out of the import?

If you would like to opt-out of the import, please login to http://pages.google.com, click on the link at the top of your Site Manager to the migration status page. This page allows you to opt-out of the migration, export your site, and setup a redirect once you've relocated it.

What if I've already manually moved my content from Page Creator to Sites?

Login to http://pages.google.com, click on the link at the top of your Site Manager to the migration status page. Enter the URL to your site on Google Sites in the redirect field and opt-out of the migration.

My Page Creator pages have custom CSS and JavaScript. Will this work in Google Sites?

Google Sites does not support custom JavaScript or CSS at this time for security reasons. Many embeddings are available on Google Sites through Google Gadgets (insert -> More Gadgets...), but arbitrary JavaScript and CSS will not work once the content is migrated to Google Sites. If this is a critical part of your site, we recommend exporting your content to another service.

I use Page Creator to serve HTML files, but Sites doesn't allow uploading of .html files. What will this migration mean for me?

Google Sites does not support arbitrary HTML files. We recommend exporting your content to another service.

I've hidden my site, will it be migrated too?

No it won't be. If you would like to have your site migrated, make sure that it isn't marked as hidden in you site settings.
